Film Screening: "Ratified"
Description
This non-partisan event is sponsored by the Niantic Charitable Trust, Hollins University's Batten Leadership Institute and Department of Gender & Women’s Studies, the GFWC Star Woman’s Club, and the Latinas Network of Roanoke in partnership with CommUNITY-ARTS Reach and the Roanoke Democracy Center.
Synopsis: Most Americans believe the Constitution protects gender equality. It does not. "Ratified" follows three brave women who unexpectedly accept the reins to carry forward a 100-year struggle to build a more inclusive movement and finally enshrine gender equality in the Constitution.
Two community leaders, Freeda Cathcart (president of the GFWC Star Woman's Club, founder of By the Women for the Women Vote) and Elysse Stolpe (senior assistant commonwealth's attorney for the City of Waynesboro and adjunct professor of law at UVa) will lead a discussion of the film following the screening.
