Brandon Oaks Takes Home Two Awards at Statewide Health Care Award Ceremony

The Virginia Health Care Association and Virginia Center for Assisted Living is the state’s largest association for long term care providers. Their membership encompasses 345 nursing centers and assisted living communications across the Commonwealth. Each year, they host an annual conference and awards ceremony to honor those who have been nominated by their peers as superior caregivers, volunteers and more. At their conference on September 20, 2018, Brandon Oaks was grateful to have two representatives receive these distinguished honors.
Darlene Griffin was named the VHCA-VCAL Director of Nursing of the Year. Darlene has served as Director of Nursing at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehab Center for 13 years. Darlene is described as a servant leader who has devoted her entire career to improving the quality of care in long term care.
Sterling Hall was named the VHCA-VCAL Teen Volunteer of the Year. Sterling’s journey with Brandon Oaks began when he was only 9 years old, playing the piano for residents. While he started out shy, over the years he developed into a confident, accomplished performer. His attention to detail in what songs he chooses for residents, and the time he takes to practice, improves the overall quality of life for our residents.
Brandon Oaks is a non-profit Life Plan community, operating under the sponsorship of Virginia Lutheran Homes. Brandon Oaks offers residents independent living, assisted living, intensive assisted living, memory care, nursing care and therapy.
